Glenfarclas Quarter Cask 25 Year Old Whisky – 42.4%

5 July 2013

One of around 900 bottles yielded from 10 quarter casks which used to be a fairly common sight in Glenfarclas, however now very few are left.

Released 2013.

The youngest of these last casks was 25 years old.

Quarter casks are so called as they contain a quarter of the volume of a traditional sherry butt, approximately 125 litres, smaller casks mean more of the spirit is in contact with the wood – the contents therefore mature faster, but also lose more to the Angel's share than larger hogsheads (250L) or butts (500L).

Official Tasting notes:
Colour – Rich, well used copper.
Nose – Sweet, fresh honeycomb, sherry prominent but not overpowering. A very well balanced nose. No oak or age, a very youthful 25 Year Old
Taste – A dark bitter chocolate, light ginger, caramel and treacle pudding topped with vanilla custard. An ever changing taste bringing in all the quarter casks that were used to make this delightful whisky.
Finish – Long, fresh, with Granny smith apples coming forth.
